Tripoli: The Libyan parliament has denounced Greece's call to cancel a memorandum of understanding signed between Tripoli and Ankara in 2019 on maritime boundary delimitation, describing it as 'a clear violation of national sovereignty.'

According to Anadolu Agency, during a meeting in Athens, Greek Parliament Speaker Nikitas Kaklamanis stated that the 2019 Trkiye-Libya maritime agreement must be revoked. This statement was made in the presence of his Libyan counterpart, Aguila Saleh. Misbah Ouhida, the second deputy speaker of the Libyan parliament, expressed astonishment and disapproval at the Greek official's repeated statements, viewing them as direct interference in Libya's internal affairs.

Ouhida specifically labeled the Greek speaker's remarks as a 'clear violation of national sovereignty.' He emphasized Libya's respect for principles of good neighborliness and mutual respect in bilateral relations. Furthermore, Ouhida asserted Libya's status as a fully sovereign state, capable of determining and protecting its supreme interests without external interference.

The contentious agreement involves the delimitation of maritime boundaries between Libya and Trkiye. Greece contends that this deal infringes upon its exclusive economic zone. Ouhida, defending the agreement with Trkiye, stated that such agreements are sovereign decisions governed by international laws and norms, and no external country has the right to influence Libya's decisions regarding them.
