Ankara: Local authorities in Gaza warned Sunday that limited aid deliveries allowed into the enclave will not end the famine caused by Israel's months-long blockade. Several aid trucks were allowed into Gaza early Sunday through the Rafah border crossing with Egypt.

According to Anadolu Agency, Gaza's government media office stated that the region requires 600 aid trucks daily, including essential supplies such as baby formula, food, and fuel, to meet the population's minimum needs. The entry of dozens of aid trucks 'remains limited and will not be sufficient to end the famine,' the office emphasized. It highlighted the urgent need for 250,000 cans of baby formula per month to help infants survive the current crisis and called for the immediate and unconditional opening of all crossings, demanding a complete lifting of the Israeli siege.

The media office criticized partial or symbolic solutions, stating they are inadequate to resolve the widespread hunger and malnutrition affecting Gaza's most vulnerable. Meanwhile, Israel announced plans for localized temporary pauses in fighting to permit aid deliveries through designated safe corridors. This announcement comes amid mounting accusations that such measures are attempts to whitewash the country's role in the deepening humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Despite international calls for a ceasefire, the Israeli army has continued its offensive on Gaza since October 7, 2023, resulting in more than 59,700 Palestinian deaths, predominantly women and children. The ongoing bombardment has caused devastating destruction and led to severe food shortages in the enclave.

Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Furthermore, Israel is also facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice related to its actions in the region.
