Paris: French President Emmanuel Macron vowed cooperation with South Africa towards a "fairer" and "more inclusive" global governance in a phone call with his counterpart Cyril Ramaphosa on Saturday.

According to Anadolu Agency, Macron emphasized the importance of collaboration with South Africa in the lead-up to the G20 Summit. He expressed his best wishes for South Africa's presidency of the G20, highlighting the intention to work together to establish a roadmap for improved global governance. This initiative aligns with France's upcoming presidency of the G7 in 2026.

Macron noted that the discussions with Ramaphosa covered pressing international crises, including the situations in the Middle East and Ukraine, as well as issues in the Great Lakes region. They also examined ways to enhance bilateral cooperation between France and South Africa.

The dialogue between the two leaders is set to continue, with plans to coordinate closely before the United Nations General Assembly, where they are scheduled to meet again in September.

In addition to his conversation with President Ramaphosa, Macron engaged in talks with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The discussions focused on strengthening the strategic partnership between France and Kazakhstan, particularly in transportation and energy sectors, building on previous visits between the two countries' leaders.
