Kuala lumpur: Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has reached out to his Thai and Cambodian counterparts, urging dialogue to de-escalate the ongoing border tensions between their countries. The communication occurred via phone calls as the ASEAN foreign ministers' meeting approaches.

According to Anadolu Agency, Anwar conveyed through US social media platform X the necessity for Cambodia and Thailand to embrace dialogue, wisdom, and mutual respect to alleviate tensions and preserve regional peace and stability. Despite a peace agreement being signed in Kuala Lumpur last October with the presence of Anwar and former US President Donald Trump, the accord was suspended following a serious incident where Thai soldiers were injured by a landmine in a border province.

The border dispute between Thailand and Cambodia is longstanding and has frequently led to violent clashes. Anwar's intervention underscores the critical need for diplomatic engagement to prevent further escalation and promote harmony in the region.
