Merz Calls for ‘Strategic Partnerships’ to Address Global Challenges During Ankara Visit

Ankara: German Chancellor Friedrich Merz called for developing "strategic partnerships" to address new geopolitical challenges during his visit to Ankara on Thursday. "We are entering a new geopolitical phase. Therefore, we must expand our strategic partnerships," the conservative leader said in a social media post as his official program began.

According to Anadolu Agency, Merz emphasized the need to better utilize the potential of Germany's relations with Trkiye, highlighting the strong foundation already in place. The visit marks Merz's first official trip to Ankara since forming the new German coalition government in May.

Earlier this week, Merz's spokesman underscored the significance of the visit, noting it as a crucial opportunity to discuss important bilateral and international topics. The visit is expected to focus on enhancing cooperation in areas such as security and foreign policy.
