Meta Partners with AMD for Long-Term AI Infrastructure Deal

Meta: Meta announced Tuesday that it signed a multi-year agreement with chip firm AMD to strengthen its artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure with its products, with a warrant to purchase about 10% of the chip giant.

According to Anadolu Agency, Meta revealed that the partnership involves up to 6GW of AMD Instinct GPUs, the silicon computing technology used to support modern AI models. The company emphasized its commitment to developing the next generation of artificial intelligence, aiming to make personal superintelligence accessible to everyone.

The statement from Meta highlighted the need for massive, scalable compute power to address the growing demands of AI workloads. The collaboration with AMD builds on their existing partnership and aims to align roadmaps in chips, systems, and software. Initial GPU deployments are expected to begin in the second half of 2026, based on the Helios rack-scale architecture, which was developed in collaboration with AMD.

Meta stressed that the collaboration in software and hardware will facilitate rapid and large-scale innovation, with the agreement forming part of its strategy to expand infrastructure at scale. The company also noted the performance-linked warrant granted by AMD, allowing Meta to purchase 160 million shares, which represents 10% of the chip firm.

By diversifying partnerships and technology stacks, Meta aims to build a more resilient and flexible infrastructure. This strategy combines hardware from various partners with Meta's own Meta Training and Inference Accelerator (MTIA) silicon program.

AMD CEO Lisa Su remarked that the collaboration aligns roadmaps across Instinct GPUs, EPYC CPUs, and rack-scale AI systems to deliver high-performance, energy-efficient infrastructure optimized for Meta's workloads, marking AMD's central role in the global AI expansion. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg described the agreement as a significant step in diversifying the firm's computing resources and expressed expectations for a long-term partnership with AMD.
