Migrant Boat Sinks Near Gavdos, Greece, Leaving One Dead and 25 Missing

Gavdos: One migrant has died and approximately 25 others remain missing after a boat carrying 77 migrants sank south of the Greek island of Gavdos. Greek Coast Guard and Frontex vessels, alongside aircraft and a Coast Guard helicopter, are engaged in a search and rescue operation overseen by Greece's Unified Search and Rescue Coordination Center.

According to Anadolu Agency, 51 migrants have been rescued and are currently aboard the vessels participating in the operation. Tragically, one individual was recovered deceased from the water. The rescued migrants are anticipated to be transported to migrant reception centers located in Paleochora and Agia Galini on the island of Crete.

Gavdos, known as Greece's southernmost island, lies on a migration path from northern Africa's coast and has previously experienced incidents involving migrant boats.
