Minneapolis: The City of Minneapolis demanded federal immigration agents "immediately" leave the city and state on Wednesday after a federal law enforcement agent shot a Venezuelan national in the leg during a confrontation in the state of Minnesota.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported that an officer was attacked while attempting an arrest. The DHS statement highlighted that the incident occurred amidst encouragement from Minnesota's top leaders, Governor Walz and Mayor Frey, for organized resistance against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and federal law enforcement officers.

The agency detailed that agents were conducting a targeted traffic stop of an undocumented immigrant who fled in a vehicle, ultimately crashing into a parked car and attempting to escape on foot. A confrontation followed when the officer caught up with the suspect, during which two individuals reportedly attacked the officer with a snow shovel and broom handle.

Fearing for his safety, the officer discharged his weapon, injuring the initial suspect in the leg, as noted by the DHS. Both the officer and the injured suspect received medical attention at a hospital, while the two others involved were apprehended after barricading themselves in a nearby apartment.

In the aftermath, clashes erupted between law enforcement and demonstrators at the scene. Social media footage captured fireworks being launched at officers, prompting a response with tear gas to disperse the crowd.

This incident follows a recent shooting by an ICE agent that resulted in the death of Renee Good, 37, in Minneapolis, which has fueled significant protests and increased scrutiny of federal operations in the region.
