Rafah: A missing Palestinian medic is in Israeli detention after he went unaccounted for last month in Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society said on Sunday.

According to Anadolu Agency, the organization stated that it was notified by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) that Asaad Nsasrah was held by Israeli forces. The Red Crescent Society has appealed to the international community to exert pressure on Israel for the immediate release of Nsasrah, who they claim was 'forcibly abducted while carrying out his humanitarian duties.'

Last month, Israel faced international backlash following an incident in Rafah where its army forces surrounded and killed eight Palestinian medics and one UN staffer during a rescue mission. The victims were shot, with some having their hands bound, and were buried approximately 200 meters from where their vehicles had last been seen.

Initially, the Israeli army asserted that its forces fired on vehicles that approached in a 'suspicious manner' without emergency signals. However, it later admitted to the killings of the medics.

To date, more than 50,900 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, have been killed in Gaza due to a severe Israeli onslaught since October 2023. The International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel is also facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice concerning its war on the enclave.
