Washington: US Sen. Mitch McConnell returned to the Senate floor on Monday in a wheelchair, marking his first vote since experiencing a fall in June. This appearance ends a nearly three-month absence as he continues his recovery.

According to Anadolu Agency, McConnell shared his anticipation of returning to the Senate on the US social media platform X. He expressed eagerness to reconnect with his colleagues and participate in voting. The Kentucky Republican noted that his recovery has been challenging, partly due to the lingering effects of childhood polio. Despite ongoing physical therapy, McConnell admitted he has not fully recovered.

In communication with Senate Majority Leader John Thune, McConnell committed to being present for critical votes, emphasizing his dedication to the Senate's operations. On Monday, he was observed leaving his Washington, DC residence for the first time since his prolonged absence.

Upon his arrival at the Senate floor, McConnell was welcomed by fellow senators. As the longest-serving Senate party leader in US history, McConnell is planning to retire when his current term concludes in January.
