Ankara:Prime Minister Vasile Tofan has accused Russia of 'repeatedly violating' Moldovan airspace with drones, describing the situation as 'unacceptable' and cautioning against normalizing such incidents.
According to Anadolu Agency, Tofan addressed the UN General Assembly during its high-level week, emphasizing that Moldova should not become accustomed to these violations. He stated, "Repetition does not make violation acceptable," underscoring the importance of a firm response to these actions.
Discussing the ongoing conflict in neighboring Ukraine, Tofan highlighted Moldova's efforts to assist. The country has welcomed refugees fleeing the war, kept transport routes open, and reduced rail transit costs for Ukrainian grain. He acknowledged that these decisions were not always 'cost-free or politically easy' domestically.
Regarding Moldova's aspirations for European Union integration, Tofan mentioned that accession negotiations are progressing following the country's attainment of candidate status in 2022. He clarified that joining the EU is not about shifting spheres of influence but about Moldovan citizens choosing democracy, prosperity, and peace.
Tofan also noted that Moldova's European trajectory is closely linked to its partnership with the United States, focusing on security, energy independence, and resilience.
