More EU Citizens Contemplate Leaving Germany Due to Rising Costs and Discrimination: Report

Berlin: More European Union citizens are considering leaving Germany due to escalating costs, discrimination, and a sense of not belonging, Polish broadcaster TVP World reported.

According to Anadolu Agency, this marks the first time in 15 years that more EU citizens are leaving Germany than arriving. The broadcaster cited a study commissioned by Germany's federal government commissioner for migration, refugees, and integration, Natalie Pawlik. The study revealed that 35% of surveyed EU citizens are contemplating leaving Germany, and 13% have already taken concrete steps toward leaving.

Among those surveyed, 42% identified housing costs as a primary reason for their potential departure, while 36% mentioned overall living expenses as a concern. Additionally, nearly 39% of respondents expressed that they do not feel fully integrated into German society, with reported experiences of discrimination ranging from 15% to 28%.

The report also highlighted other challenges faced by EU citizens in Germany, such as language barriers and difficulties in getting professional qualifications recognized.
