Damascus: Morocco announced on Wednesday the reopening of its embassy in Syria, marking the end of a 13-year diplomatic hiatus. The embassy resumed its operations in Damascus last Sunday, as reported by the official Moroccan news agency.

According to Anadolu Agency, the embassy has been temporarily reopened at its previous location. This arrangement is in place while administrative procedures and preparations are underway to relocate to a new premise that is intended to better accommodate the renewed diplomatic momentum between Morocco and Syria. The decision to reopen the embassy in the Syrian capital was initially made in May.

The political landscape in Syria has undergone significant changes, with Bashar al-Assad, who had been in power for nearly 25 years, fleeing to Russia in late 2024. This departure marked the end of the Baath Party's long-standing regime, which had governed since 1963. In January, a new transitional administration was formed, led by President Ahmad al-Sharaa, signaling a new chapter in Syrian politics.
