Jeddah: The Multinational Maritime Defense Coalition convened its 4th planning meeting in Saudi Arabia, as announced by the Saudi Defense Ministry on Friday. This meeting, held in Jeddah, marks a significant milestone in the coalition's evolution from its founding phase to achieving Initial Operational Capability.

According to Anadolu Agency, representatives from 41 countries, along with EU officials, participated in the discussions. The coalition, consisting of 14 countries, was established in July to safeguard critical waterways around the Arabian Peninsula, including the Gulf of Aden, Bab el-Mandeb Strait, and the Red Sea, ensuring they remain accessible for international navigation.

The coalition is currently focused on integrating capabilities and preparing for operational execution in the maritime regions. The meeting reviewed progress made in the coalition's efforts and assessed advancements in the inclusion of additional countries. Discussions centered on the requirements for joint operations, contributions from participating nations, and enhancing the coalition's operational readiness.

The Saudi Defense Ministry emphasized the significance of this meeting as it marks progress in operational readiness under a unified command, setting the stage for deployment and mission launches in the assigned areas of responsibility.
