Myanmar’s Leader Engages in Strategic Dialogue with Putin in Moscow

Moscow: Myanmar's President Min Aung Hlaing arrived in Moscow on Monday for talks with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. The discussions are expected to focus on expanding bilateral cooperation across multiple areas, and addressing both international and regional issues. The meeting is anticipated to result in the signing of several bilateral documents.

According to Anadolu Agency, Putin and Min Aung Hlaing have met several times in recent years, including a significant meeting at the Kremlin in March 2025. The relationship between Russia and Myanmar is marked by close political and defense ties, with Russia also playing a role in energy and infrastructure projects in Myanmar.

Min Aung Hlaing's visits to Russia have been frequent, with three visits recorded last year alone. These included a meeting with Putin in March, participation in a military parade in May marking the 80th anniversary of the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany, and attending a World Atomic Week forum in September. Despite these engagements, Putin has yet to visit Myanmar.
