NATO Ankara Summit Highlights Trkiye’s Leadership in Global Peace Efforts

Ankara: Turkish Head of Communications Burhanettin Duran stated that the NATO summit in Ankara underscored Trkiye's pivotal role in promoting international peace and security under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. "The intensive diplomatic engagements carried out since Monday as part of the NATO Ankara Summit have once again demonstrated Trkiye's active role, under the leadership of our President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in strengthening international peace, security and stability," Duran wrote on the Turkish social media platform NSosyal.

According to Anadolu Agency, Duran emphasized that President Erdogan delivered significant messages during the summit and held discussions with several global leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, European Council President Antonio Costa, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. These discussions focused on advancing bilateral relations and cooperation in various sectors such as defense, trade, and security, as well as addressing regional and global issues.

Duran noted that President Erdogan reiterated Trkiye's commitment to European security and the importance of strengthening NATO's European pillar while maintaining the 'Transatlantic Bond.' Key topics of the summit included achieving a lasting ceasefire in Gaza, resolving the Russia-Ukraine conflict through diplomacy, maintaining the agreement between Iran and the US, and establishing stability in Syria.

The signing of the Security and Defense Partnership Agreement between Trkiye and the UK was highlighted as a critical step toward enhancing strategic cooperation. During a summit press conference, Erdogan reaffirmed Trkiye's dedication to active diplomacy and collaboration with its allies to ensure peace, stability, and shared security.

Additionally, Erdogan engaged with Montenegrin Prime Minister Milojko Spajic, Slovak President Peter Pellegrini, and Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, exploring ways to strengthen bilateral relations, especially in trade, defense, security, and energy sectors.
