NATO Collaborates with US to Comprehend Troop Withdrawal from Germany

Brussels: NATO announced its collaboration with Washington to understand the United States' decision to withdraw troops from Germany. "We are working with the U.S. to understand the details of their decision on force posture in Germany," stated spokesperson Allison Hart on US social media platform X.

According to Anadolu Agency, the spokesperson emphasized the importance of Europe continuing to invest in defense and assuming a larger share of responsibility for mutual security. Hart expressed confidence in NATO's capability to maintain deterrence and defense as the shift towards a more robust Europe and NATO persists.

The US defense chief has mandated the withdrawal of roughly 5,000 troops from Germany, as confirmed by a Pentagon spokesman. President Donald Trump recently mentioned that the US is evaluating a potential reduction of its military presence in Germany, amid tensions within NATO regarding his stance on Iran.

The situation follows criticism from German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who on Monday accused the US of lacking an exit strategy in Iran, suggesting that the US was being challenged by the Iranian regime during negotiations.
