NBA and FIBA Reaffirm Commitment to Launching NBA Europe

Ankara:The NBA and the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) have reaffirmed their commitment to establishing a new professional men's basketball league in Europe. This announcement comes despite the rejection of a partnership proposal by EuroLeague clubs.

According to Anadolu Agency, The NBA and FIBA emphasized that a collaboration with EuroLeague would enhance European basketball, benefiting clubs, players, and fans. They stated that such a partnership would unlock significant potential across Europe and help build a stronger, sustainable basketball ecosystem.

EuroLeague's 13 shareholder clubs rejected the NBA's proposal to integrate their competition with the planned NBA Europe project during a recent meeting in Italy. However, the clubs expressed willingness to engage in further negotiations if the proposal is revised.

Barcelona confirmed the rejection of the initial offer, noting that EuroLeague clubs might reconsider if the NBA modifies its terms. The NBA and FIBA's proposed league aims to feature 16 teams, including 12 permanent franchises and four spots determined by sporting qualification, targeting a launch in 2027.

Meanwhile, EuroLeague is continuing its expansion plans, which may include increasing the number of participating teams from 20 to 24.
