Daraa: A new mass grave was discovered in Daraa Governorate in southern Syria, from where five bodies have been recovered so far, with estimates suggesting the presence of over 50 more, the Syrian News Agency SANA reported Saturday. Security forces in Izraa, Daraa Governorate, have discovered a mass grave in Brigade 34 located in Elmismyah, according to the Syrian agency.

According to Anadolu Agency, efforts to access the rest of the grave have been hindered by prevailing adverse weather conditions, as reported by SANA. The discovery comes amid significant political changes in Syria, following Bashar Assad's departure to Russia on December 8, which marked the end of the Baath Party's regime after nearly 60 years in power.

Ahmad Al-Sharaa, appointed as the new Syrian president on January 29, has tasked Mohammed Al-Bashir with forming a government to oversee Syria's transitional period, indicating a new phase in the country's governance. The discovery of the mass grave adds another layer of complexity to the ongoing challenges in Syria as the new administration takes shape.
