Nigeria: Nigeria's military has 'neutralized' 24 Boko Haram terrorists in coordinated operations in the West African country's northeast, an army statement said Thursday. Nigerian troops, supported by air support and local forces, conducted operations targeting Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in the northeastern region between July 4 and 9, as mentioned in the army's communication on X.

According to Anadolu Agency, the operations were concentrated in the northeastern state of Borno and its surrounding regions. The statement detailed that at least nine individuals lost their lives, and four others sustained injuries in an attack by Boko Haram terrorists on the Malam Fatori community in Borno state on Sunday.

Nigeria has been grappling with violence from armed gangs and terrorist groups like Boko Haram and ISWAP, the West African offshoot of ISIS (Daesh), across various parts of the nation. Boko Haram, which has been active since the early 2000s, has been responsible for tens of thousands of deaths since the insurgency began in 2009.

The group has expanded its attacks beyond Nigeria's borders since 2015, conducting assaults in neighboring countries such as Cameroon, Chad, and Niger. The violence in the Lake Chad Basin area has resulted in at least 2,000 deaths and has displaced hundreds of thousands of people.
