New york: South Korea's ambassador to the United States has indicated that there is currently no sign of a meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un at the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, despite previous openness from both sides to engage in dialogue.

According to Anadolu Agency, the ambassador, Kang Kyung-wha, made these remarks during a parliamentary audit at the South Korean mission to the United Nations in New York. She noted that while President Trump has expressed willingness to engage in talks and North Korea has shown some inclination towards dialogue, there is no indication that such a meeting will occur during the APEC summit.

Kang emphasized that efforts are ongoing to monitor developments and keep the possibility of a Trump-Kim meeting open. President Trump is scheduled to visit South Korea ahead of the APEC summit, which will take place from October 31 to November 1 in Gyeongju.

The ambassador also highlighted South Korea's proactive stance in addressing Korean Peninsula issues through dialogue with North Korea, while simultaneously working to encourage a sincere response from Pyongyang. Relations between Seoul and Pyongyang have worsened in recent years, prompting several initiatives by South Korean President Lee Jae Myung's administration since his election in June to restore inter-Korean communication.
