Gaza: The UN special rapporteur on the right to health stated that there will be no peace in the Gaza Strip until the Israeli occupation ends. "Until the occupation ends, there won't be peace. We need an end to the occupation, immediate, unconditional ceasefire," Tlaleng Mofokeng told reporters.

According to Anadolu Agency, Mofokeng has formally engaged with Israel regarding the detention of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, who was arrested by the Israeli army from inside the hospital in December 2024. Despite her efforts, Mofokeng has received no response from Israel. She has been advocating for the release of all health care workers and for investigations into the killings of those in the medical field.

Mofokeng emphasized the harmful impact of the occupation, stating, "You need to remember that their (Israel) intention is to cause harm and psychological trauma." In the broader context of the conflict, efforts for peace have seen some developments. The first phase of US President Donald Trump's 20-point Gaza ceasefire deal was initiated on October 10, which includes the release of Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners.

Since October 2023, the conflict has resulted in the deaths of over 68,200 individuals and injuries to more than 170,300 people in Gaza, as reported by the Gaza Health Ministry.
