Stockholm: Several media outlets from Sweden and Norway have expressed their readiness to deploy journalists to Gaza if the "opportunity arises," as reported by local media. Editors and managers from Swedish media outlets Sveriges Radio (SR), Expressen, Svenska Dagbladet (SvD), Aftonbladet, SVT, along with Norway's Verdens Gang (VG), conveyed to the broadcaster SVT their willingness to send journalists to the region amid ongoing conflict.

According to Anadolu Agency, Eva-Therese Grottum, head of VG's news department, emphasized the importance of documenting the impact of war, including hunger and the plight of civilians. She expressed this sentiment in an email, highlighting the media's role in shedding light on the war's consequences.

SVT's foreign news editor and acting responsible publisher, Daniel Kederstedt, underscored the significance of firsthand accounts of daily life in conflict zones, aiming to reveal the true nature of war. Expressen's editor-in-chief, Klas Granstrom, echoed these sentiments, articulating the media's mission to comprehensively report on Gaza's situation.

The media outlets, including SR, SVT, SvD, and VG, have also stressed the necessity of ensuring their teams' safety before proceeding with any reporting assignments in Gaza. This caution comes amid rising death tolls among journalists, with Gaza's Media Office reporting 238 journalist fatalities since the onset of Israel's war on Gaza in late 2023.

Israel is under increasing international scrutiny and condemnation for its military actions in Gaza, which have resulted in nearly 61,600 casualties since October 2023. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, accusing them of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Additionally, Israel faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice related to its actions in the enclave.
