North Korea Rejects Sanctions Amid Renewed International Pressure

Pyongyang:North Korea has declared that sanctions and pressure are ineffective against them, claiming they "may work on the weak but never on us." This statement comes in response to a renewed push by several countries for North Korea's denuclearization and efforts to counter its attempts to evade United Nations sanctions.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, a coalition of countries, including Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, New Zealand, South Korea, the UK, the US, and the European Union, has called for the "complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearization" of North Korea. They urged Pyongyang to abandon its "unlawful" weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missile programs.

In a joint statement, the countries expressed their strong support for the implementation of all UN Security Council resolutions related to North Korea. However, North Korea's Foreign Ministry spokesperson condemned these nations' stance, labeling it a "wanton violation" of the country's sovereignty.

Furthermore, the North Korean ministry criticized the United States and its allies, accusing them of attempting to justify their "hostile policy" towards Pyongyang under "unjust and unreasonable pretexts." The spokesperson warned the member states of the multilateral sanctions monitoring team, which includes South Korea, Japan, and the EU, that they would be held accountable for what North Korea considers hostile acts.

The ministry reiterated North Korea's commitment to protecting its national sovereignty and interests through its powerful strength and expressed a desire to build international relations based on justice and impartiality.
