Jerusalem: Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak stated on Tuesday that the increasing occupier violence in the West Bank benefits Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his political allies. Speaking in an interview with Israel's 103 FM radio, Barak expressed concerns over the escalating attacks against Palestinians, describing the situation as 'huge' in terms of damage. He emphasized that while the general public might not fully grasp the situation, Netanyahu and his ministers are fully aware of the developments.

According to Anadolu Agency, Barak highlighted that there is encouragement from senior government ministers, with other political factions turning a blind eye and some executive bodies disregarding the situation due to indirect pressure. He issued a warning that a minor incident could spark widespread chaos in the West Bank, potentially leading to the cancellation of the upcoming general elections in Israel, slated for October 27. Polls indicate that Netanyahu might face a loss in these elections.

Barak further noted that Netanyahu's political survival is at stake, likening him to 'a wounded animal in a trap,' willing to use any means necessary to prevent the elections. He stressed that if Netanyahu loses, he would be ousted from the government, which would expedite the formation of an inquiry commission to investigate past warnings received from regional commanders about the unfolding events.

The West Bank has witnessed a surge in occupier attacks on Palestinians, their property, and livelihoods, coupled with ongoing Israeli military operations and raids. Approximately 750,000 Israeli occupiers reside in 141 illegal settlements and 224 settlement outposts in the occupied West Bank, including 250,000 in 15 illegal settlements in occupied East Jerusalem, based on Palestinian data.
