Officials Halt Sacrifice of Viral ‘Donald Trump’ Buffalo in Bangladesh

Dhaka: An albino buffalo nicknamed 'Donald Trump' has been returned to its farm after Bangladeshi officials intervened to prevent its planned ritual sacrifice for a Muslim holiday, local media reported. The buffalo, raised near the capital Dhaka, gained viral attention recently due to its blond hair and resemblance to US President Donald Trump's hairstyle. Crowds flocked daily to photograph the nearly 700-kilogram animal, which became a sensation on social media and was covered by international news outlets.

According to Anadolu Agency, the buffalo had been sold for sacrifice during Eid-ul-Azha, a significant holiday in the predominantly Muslim country of Bangladesh. However, Channel 24, a local broadcaster, reported that the Home Ministry intervened, requesting authorities to halt the slaughter following the animal's rising popularity nationwide.

The buffalo was subsequently returned to the farm where it was raised. Officials did not publicly provide reasons for their intervention. Farm owner Ziauddin Mridha mentioned that the animal was named 'Donald Trump' by his younger brother due to the pale tuft of hair on its forehead. He noted that albino buffaloes are uncommon in Bangladesh, where most buffaloes have dark skin.

The buffalo became a major attraction in the country, drawing visitors from various regions eager to see the animal prior to the holiday. In recent years, viral sacrificial animals with celebrity-inspired names have become a notable aspect of Bangladesh's Eid cattle market culture.
