Ankara: One person has died and nine others have been injured as the southern French department of Aude battles its largest fire of the summer. The fire, which has been active since Tuesday, continues to wreak havoc across the region.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Aude prefect confirmed that a woman was found dead in her home. Among the injured are two civilians and seven firefighters. In addition, one person has been reported missing as the fire remains active.

The blaze began on August 5 at approximately 4:15 p.m. in the commune of Ribaute. It has rapidly spread, scorching 11,100 hectares across 15 communes. In response, significant resources have been deployed, with 1,500 firefighters working through the night and an additional 320 firefighters dispatched to the scene.

Meteo-France has issued a warning that the heat will intensify by Thursday afternoon, particularly in the south, with temperatures expected to exceed seasonal norms. In Spain, the city of Cadiz has also been battling a wildfire since Tuesday, prompting the evacuation of more than 5,000 vehicles and numerous individuals, as reported by public broadcaster RTVE.

Another wildfire erupted on Tuesday in A Coruna, reaching emergency level 2 due to its proximity to populated areas and affecting at least 20 hectares. The Spanish meteorological agency Aemet has placed several regions under orange alert until Friday, with forecasts indicating temperatures could reach 42C.

Portugal is also grappling with wildfires, notably in the city of Amarante, as reported by public broadcaster RTP News. Lisbon has declared a state of alert until August 7 as a new heatwave grips the region. Over 100 municipalities across Portugal are at maximum fire risk.
