El-fasher: One person was killed and three others were injured when the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) attacked a hospital in El-Fasher, the capital city of North Darfur state in western Sudan, medics said on Sunday.
According to Anadolu Agency, the Sudan Doctors Network stated that the RSF shelling of the El-Fasher Teaching Hospital resulted in the death of a nurse and injuries to three medical staff members. The network condemned the attack as a ‘war crime, a clear violation of international humanitarian law, and part of ongoing RSF assaults on civilians and the healthcare sector in Darfur.’
The network urged the international community to take immediate action to protect civilians and medical personnel in the city, highlighting that they have been subjected to intense bombardment since early morning with various types of guided missiles.
There was no immediate comment from the RSF regarding the report of the attack.
In recent weeks, fighting between the Sudanese army and the RSF has escalated across the Kordofan and Darfur regions. The conflict between the army and the RSF, ongoing since April 2023, has resulted in over 20,000 deaths and displaced 14 million people, according to the UN and local authorities. However, research from US universities estimates the death toll to be around 130,000.
