Seoul: Only 31% of South Koreans believe that unification with North Korea would be beneficial to them personally, as indicated by the results of a new poll reported by Yonhap News.

According to Anadolu Agency, the poll was conducted by the Korea Institute for National Unification between April and May of last year, and involved 1,001 adults aged 18 and over. The data revealed that 30.6% of respondents felt unification would be very or somewhat beneficial to them, whereas only 23.5% of those born after 1991 shared this sentiment.

The survey further highlighted that while 66.4% of participants thought unification would be beneficial to the nation, a significant 92.4% believed it would benefit the people of North Korea. Overall, 52.9% of respondents deemed unification necessary, a figure close to the record low of 52.7% from a similar poll conducted by the institute in 2019.

The Korea Institute for National Unification commented on the findings, noting, "Respondents have consistently maintained the view that the country as a whole and the North Korean people would benefit from unification, while they have little to gain."
