Ramallah: Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa announced that his government is prepared to take on responsibilities in the Gaza Strip, aiming to unify institutions with the West Bank. He made these statements at the start of the weekly Cabinet meeting in Ramallah, following US President Donald Trump's recent proposal to end the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
According to Anadolu Agency, Prime Minister Mustafa emphasized the government's readiness to assume national responsibilities, including immediate relief efforts, recovery, reconstruction in Gaza, and ongoing national reforms. Palestine expressed support for Trump's plan, which aims to end the Israeli conflict in Gaza, committing to collaborate with the US, regional countries, and partners to achieve a comprehensive agreement.
President Trump, during a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, unveiled key elements of his plan. This includes a 72-hour timeline for the release of Israeli captives, a ceasefire, and the disarmament of Hamas. The proposal also suggests forming an international supervisory body, chaired by Trump, to oversee the establishment of a governing administration in Gaza, excluding Hamas and without involving the Palestinian Authority.
The plan outlines the creation of the Gaza International Transitional Authority (GITA) International Board, which would appoint commissioners and manage Gaza's administration through an 'executive secretariat' responsible for governance and coordination. The Palestinian Executive Authority, distinct from the West Bank's Palestinian Authority, would form the foundation of this governance structure.
Prime Minister Mustafa reiterated ongoing efforts to unify national institutions and legal frameworks in Gaza and the West Bank. He highlighted recent developments, such as the historic New York Declaration and increased international recognition of the Palestinian state, as pivotal in preventing displacement and annexation, and in reinforcing the path to establishing an independent Palestinian state.
The New York Declaration, adopted on September 23, during the Conference on the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France, reaffirmed international commitment to the two-state solution. This declaration, stemming from the initial international conference held in New York in July, aims to set a definitive course for a better future for Palestinians, Israelis, and the wider region.
