Beirut: The Palestinian group Islamic Jihad has reported that its commander in Lebanon was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut's southern suburbs. The incident marks a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict between Israel and militant groups in the region.

According to Anadolu Agency, the group's armed wing, the Saraya al-Quds Brigades, released a statement mourning the loss of Adham Al-Othman, 41, who died as a result of the Israeli military action in the Lebanese capital. The strike was part of a series of Israeli airstrikes that killed at least 52 people and injured over 150 others in Beirut and southern Lebanon on Monday.

The attacks followed an announcement by Hezbollah, claiming responsibility for targeting a military site in northern Israel with rockets and drones. This move was declared as a response to the ongoing Israeli attacks on Lebanon and a joint US-Israeli military offensive against Iran.

The situation intensified as the United States and Israel continued their large-scale offensive against Iran, which began on Saturday. The offensive resulted in the deaths of several top Iranian leaders, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and senior military officials. In retaliation, Tehran launched drone and missile strikes against Israel and various Gulf countries that host US assets.
