Ramallah: Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas announced his willingness to work with US President Donald Trump to achieve a comprehensive peace agreement with Israel. In a letter to Trump, Abbas expressed gratitude for Trump's efforts in facilitating a ceasefire between Israel and Iran, as reported by the official news agency Wafa.

According to Anadolu Agency, Abbas described the ceasefire as a necessary measure to alleviate global crises, positively affecting regional security and stability. The ceasefire, declared after 12 days of aerial combat between Israel and Iran, was announced by Trump, marking an end to the conflict between the two nations.

Abbas emphasized that a ceasefire in Gaza would further Trump's efforts towards a comprehensive peace involving Palestinians, Israelis, and the global community. He expressed his willingness to work with Trump, Saudi Arabia, and the international community to realize the promise of peace, aiming for security and stability for all involved parties.

In his communication with Trump, Abbas highlighted the potential for achieving what once seemed impossible: a recognized, free, sovereign, and secure Palestine alongside a recognized and secure Israel, fostering a region characterized by peace, prosperity, and integration.

The statement comes amid continued Israeli military actions in Gaza, which have resulted in over 56,100 Palestinian casualties, predominantly women and children, since October 2023. Despite international calls for a ceasefire, the Israeli army has maintained its offensive.

The situation follows the issuance of arrest warrants last November by the International Criminal Court for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, citing war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
