Palestinian Schools Suspend Classes in West Bank on Gaza Genocide Anniversary

Ankara:Palestinian educational institutions have announced the suspension or rescheduling of classes in the occupied West Bank on the third anniversary of the start of Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip. This decision comes amid concerns about potential tensions and field escalation.

According to Anadolu Agency, the measures affect both government and private schools, as well as universities, with some institutions opting to move classes online. An-Najah National University, a private university in the northern West Bank, stated that its students will attend classes remotely due to the prevailing circumstances and safety concerns.

Education directorates across most areas of the West Bank have shifted Wednesday's classes to Tuesday to ensure student safety given the current situation. Additionally, government schools are currently operating only three days a week due to a financial crisis affecting the Palestinian Authority.

Israel has announced a comprehensive closure of crossings with the West Bank and Gaza on October 5 and 7, coinciding with the anniversary of the October 7, 2023 events. This information was reported by Israel's public broadcaster KAN, citing Defense Minister Israel Katz.

Since the beginning of Israel's actions in Gaza on October 7, 2023, Israeli forces have intensified attacks in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem. These actions have involved killings, arrests, displacements, home demolitions, land leveling, and illegal settlement expansion, according to Palestinian sources.
