Jeddah: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Monday voiced its rejection of proposals aimed at displacing the Palestinian people from the Gaza Strip. The OIC's dismissal of such plans comes amidst ongoing tensions and violence in the region.

According to Anadolu Agency, US President Donald Trump recently suggested the idea of "cleaning out" the Gaza Strip and relocating Palestinians to neighboring countries, Jordan and Egypt. He described Gaza as a "demolition site" following extensive damage and loss of life due to Israel's military actions in the region since October 7, 2023, which have resulted in over 47,000 Palestinian casualties.

The OIC condemned these plans, labeling them as "a blatant violation of international law and relevant UN resolutions." The organization reiterated its demand for the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied Palestinian territories and stressed the importance of delivering humanitarian aid throughout the Gaza Strip. Furthermore, the OIC emphasized the necessity for displaced Palestinians to return to their homes.

The Jeddah-based organization underscored the critical role of the Palestinian government in maintaining unity across all Palestinian territories, including Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem. It called for comprehensive programs aimed at emergency relief, economic recovery, and reconstruction for the Palestinian people. Additionally, the OIC reaffirmed its steadfast support for the Palestinians' right to their land and holy sites.

Moreover, the OIC urged the international community to take responsibility for implementing the two-state solution as a means to resolve the longstanding Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The rejection of Trump's proposal by Egypt and Jordan further highlights the regional opposition to such resettlement plans.
