Jeddah: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) announced on Thursday that it will hold an emergency meeting of foreign ministers on Monday to formulate a collective response to Israel's plan to fully reoccupy the Gaza Strip.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Jeddah-based organization stated that preparations are in progress for this special session. The meeting aims to address the ongoing Israeli offensive and the attempts to establish a permanent occupation in the enclave. Additionally, the OIC intends to discuss coordinated positions concerning issues like genocide, starvation, forced displacement, siege, and the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza.

The announcement comes in the wake of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu dismissing mediation efforts for a ceasefire. Instead, Netanyahu has directed his military to expedite the implementation of a plan to occupy Gaza City. This plan, approved on August 8, involves displacing approximately one million residents to the south, surrounding Gaza City, and conducting ground operations in residential areas.

On August 11, Israeli forces initiated a significant assault on the Zeitoun neighborhood in southeastern Gaza City. The operation employed booby-trapped robots to demolish homes, supported by artillery fire and forced displacement, as reported by witnesses.

Since October 2023, Israel's military actions have resulted in the deaths of nearly 62,200 Palestinians in Gaza. The military campaign has left the enclave in ruins and on the brink of famine.

In November of the previous year, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, citing war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Furthermore, Israel is currently facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice related to its actions in the enclave.
