Istanbul: The head of the Trkiye Technology Team Foundation (T3 Foundation) emphasized the critical role of nuclear energy in achieving computing power, highlighting its importance for energy independence in the modern era. Speaking at the Take Off Istanbul Startup Summit, Selcuk Bayraktar noted that the question of energy availability is central to discussions about the number of operations performed per second in artificial intelligence (AI).
According to Anadolu Agency, Bayraktar shared that the foundation is organizing a competition at TEKNOFEST, Trkiye's major tech event, which recently saw an overwhelming number of applications for designing a reactor. The aim is to cultivate human resources capable of developing this technology.
The two-day summit, which commenced on Wednesday, was held at the Istanbul Expo Center. It was organized under the leadership of the T3 Foundation, in collaboration with the Industry and Technology Ministry and the Investment and Finance Office, with Anadolu as its global communications partner.
Bayraktar also discussed advancements in satellite technology, referencing the country's fully homegrown orbital transfer vehicle (OTV) developed by Turkish firm Fergani Space Technologies, where he serves as CEO. A team of 130 engineers is currently working on this project, which aims to establish a global positioning system and has recently launched its latest OTV.
He highlighted the significance of global positioning systems for Trkiye's independence, given the potential for jamming or spoofing. Trkiye's forthcoming global positioning system will be named Ulug Bey, and experimental satellites have already been launched as part of this initiative.
Furthermore, Bayraktar announced the establishment of a space launch station for Trkiye, noting that while such facilities typically require oceanfront locations, Trkiye has secured a 30 by 30-kilometer area in Somalia. This development will facilitate the deployment of launch vehicles and further bolster Trkiye's space capabilities. Construction in Somalia has already commenced, with Trkiye's missile producer Roketsan expected to utilize the site.
