Pentagon Plans Intensive Iran Strike as Trump Rules Out Pre-Midterm Attack

Washington:The Pentagon has devised a plan for a three-day military campaign against Iran, according to a report by the New York Times. This development comes even as President Donald Trump assured that an attack would not occur before the November 3 midterm elections.

According to Anadolu Agency, the US military has been instructed by Trump to prepare options targeting Iran's missile and drone capabilities, energy infrastructure, and military sites. These plans were reviewed by senior national security officials led by Vice President JD Vance at a meeting in Camp David last Friday.

The proposed strikes would concentrate on Iran's missile and drone arsenal, which the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has reportedly rebuilt. Additional targets could include Iranian energy facilities and command posts of the IRGC.

Another report by Axios indicated that the Pentagon has tasked the US Central Command with finalizing preparations for potentially resuming major combat operations against Iran. However, no specific date for the strikes has been set, and Trump has not yet made a final decision. Any renewed operations are expected to involve significant bombing of Iranian energy, infrastructure, and nuclear sites.

Despite the military preparations, Trump emphasized that the US would not engage in an attack before the midterm elections, citing ongoing diplomatic discussions between Washington and Tehran. On his Truth Social platform, Trump noted that these discussions have been "productive."

The New York Times also mentioned that Trump has repeatedly rejected proposals to resume major combat operations against Iran, although he has directed the Pentagon to develop new military options. Additionally, three US aircraft carriers are anticipated to be in the Middle East in the near future as part of the military buildup.
