Manila: Philippine Senator Imee Marcos, the elder sister of President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr., has raised concerns that the Constitution may have been disregarded in the recent arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte. In her role as chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Marcos presided over an inquiry into Duterte's arrest last week, highlighting actions taken by her brother's administration that appear to conflict with her principles.

According to Anadolu Agency, during the inquiry, Senator Marcos expressed skepticism about the government's narrative that it was simply adhering to international commitments. She suggested that efforts to obscure the truth have led to increased suspicion about potential constitutional violations and a possible erosion of national sovereignty.

Duterte's legal team has been informed of the first set of evidence to be presented against him. International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor Karim Khan confirmed in a three-page communication that 181 items have been disclosed to the defense. While specific details about the evidence remain undisclosed, these items are reportedly cited in the warrant of arrest issued against Duterte.

President Marcos Jr. has previously stated that Manila did not provide any documents to the ICC, despite requests from the court. Duterte is facing trial at the ICC over alleged crimes against humanity linked to his controversial war on drugs. The former president was arrested on March 11 after returning from Hong Kong and was subsequently transported to The Hague in the Netherlands.
