Kyiv: Ukrainian Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal announced the signing of a memorandum between Ukraine and Poland to establish a joint working group focused on drones. This development marks a significant step in the security cooperation between the two nations.

According to Anadolu Agency, Shmyhal, who made the announcement via Telegram, stated that he signed the memorandum alongside Polish Defense Minister Wladislaw Kosiniak-Kamysz during his visit to Kyiv. The collaboration aims to enhance security in response to Russian threats impacting Ukraine and other European countries.

The joint working group's primary focus will be on developing joint training programs, facilitating the exchange of knowledge and experience regarding drones, and exploring methods for using and countering drone technology. Additionally, the ministers signed a joint declaration to strengthen security and defense collaboration between Poland and Ukraine, highlighting key areas for deepened cooperation.

Shmyhal also mentioned the signing of a letter appealing to NATO defense ministers, urging them to send experts to the Joint Analysis, Training And Education Centre, a NATO-Ukraine organization initiated in February, to actively participate in its projects.

Expressing gratitude to Poland and Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz, Shmyhal emphasized the importance of the alliance in reinforcing security across Europe. This announcement comes in the wake of reports that at least 19 drones entered Polish airspace during Russian attacks on Ukraine, with Russia denying any intentional incursion.

In response to these developments, NATO has introduced Operation Eastern Sentry, aiming to bolster defenses in the region.
