Warsaw: A Polish court on Tuesday sentenced a man to prison for declaring his willingness to spy for Russia and pass on information that could have aided a potential assassination plot against Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

According to Anadolu Agency, Jacek Dobrzynski, spokesperson for the minister overseeing the country's security and intelligence agencies, reported that a 50-year-old resident of Hrubieszow expressed his willingness to act on behalf of foreign intelligence against Poland. The man, identified as Pawel K., indicated his readiness to join the Russian military intelligence structures and perform intelligence tasks.

Dobrzynski elaborated that these tasks involved passing information about the Rzeszow - Jasionka Airport near the Polish-Ukrainian border. This intelligence could have been crucial in planning an attack on the life of Ukrainian President Zelenskyy. A district court in southeastern Poland sentenced Pawel K. to three years and six months in prison for his actions.

Additionally, Dobrzynski noted that the man showed "expressed readiness" to join Russia's Wagner Group and a military unit of Moscow's foreign intelligence agency, further solidifying the gravity of his intentions.
