Accra:Pope Leo XIV highlighted the significance of marriage and family for society during his first general audience following surgery.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, the Pope reflected on the Second Vatican Council's pastoral constitution Gaudium et Spes, describing the family as "the foundation of society" and urging for increased efforts to support marriage and family life. He emphasized that this responsibility is critical for those in social, political, and cultural roles to enhance the well-being of families.

Pope Leo XIV also expressed gratitude to those who prayed for him during his recent hospital stay. He was discharged from Rome's Gemelli Hospital on October 17 after undergoing a lung operation on October 13, which necessitated a five-day hospitalization.
