Ankara: Lebanese authorities are struggling to restore electricity after a nationwide power outage since midnight, officials said on Sunday.

According to Anadolu Agency, Lebanon's state electricity company, Electricit© du Liban (EDL), stated that a malfunction occurred in a high-voltage transformer at the main Zouk power station in central Lebanon due to extreme heat and humidity, leading to a nationwide blackout. Technical teams are currently working to repair the fault to restore electricity as soon as possible.

An Anadolu reporter noted that residents are now relying on small private generators until electricity is restored. The country has been experiencing an extreme heat wave in recent days, with temperatures in some areas reaching 45°C (113 °F) and humidity levels nearing 80%, according to the Meteorological Department.

Lebanon has long faced chronic power shortages for homes and institutions, with daily blackouts lasting several hours due to poor transmission networks and power generation plants.
