Ankara: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was awarded the World Health Organization (WHO) Europe Award for Trkiye's significant humanitarian efforts for Palestinians, notably in facilitating medical evacuations from Gaza. This recognition was presented by WHO Regional Director for Europe Hans Kluge at the 11th Turkish Medical World Congress held in Ankara.

According to Anadolu Agency, President Erdogan, during the award ceremony, spoke out against the international community's inaction in response to the ongoing destruction in Gaza, including the bombing of hospitals and the killing of patients, health workers, and infants. He expressed the belief that global harmony could be achieved when the world collectively values the preservation of life and the joyous arrival of newborns.

Erdogan highlighted Trkiye's extensive transformation of its healthcare system over the past 23 years, which now provides high-quality and affordable services to a population of 86 million, supported by a workforce of over 1.47 million health personnel. He detailed the significant growth in healthcare staff, the renewal and rebuilding of public hospitals, and the expansion of hospital bed capacities across the country.

The President also focused on Trkiye's efforts in earthquake-affected provinces, where reconstruction has led to increased healthcare capacity. He emphasized the importance of advancing in scientific research, pharmaceuticals, and medical device production, with aspirations to replicate successes achieved in Trkiye's defense industry.

Burhanettin Duran, Turkish Presidential Communications Director, also remarked on the award, acknowledging it as a testament to Trkiye's humanitarian diplomacy under President Erdogan's leadership. Duran emphasized the ongoing impact of Erdogan's dedication to the Palestinian cause and the continuation of humanitarian efforts in Gaza.
