Prokopiou and Palestinian Ambassador discuss meeting with Israeli Minister

Justice and Public Order Minster, Anna Koukkides - Procopiou, discussed the issue of her recent meeting with Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, during a meeting with the Ambassador of Palestine to Cyprus, Abdallah Hatem Attari, on Friday in Nicosia.

According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Justice and Public Order the issue was raised by Ambassador Attari, and Koukkides-Procopiou noted that the meeting took place in the framework of a typical response to an initiative undertaken by the Israeli Minister, who is the competent Minister for the fire-fighting aircraft of his country.

It was noted that the meeting with the Israeli Minister focused on thanking Israel for the important aid it offered to Cyprus for extinguishing the fires that broke our in Limassol district. Procopiou assured that the Republic of Cyprus' stance on issues related to political sensitivities has never deviated from the EU's approach, the press release added.

Moreover it said that the meeting took place at a very friendly and constructive climate. During the discussion the two officials referred to the long-standing strong ties between Cyprus and Palestine and reaffirmed that unwavering commitment of the two sides to reinforcing their tangible cooperation as a result of the recent historical visit of the President of Cyprus to Palestine.

More specifically, as regards the Ministry of Justice and Public Order they looked into the prospects for cooperation between their Fire Service and Police bodies, with joint training sessions and exchanges of best practices.

In this framework, Koukkides-Procopiou expressed the gratitude of the Republic of Cyprus for Palestine's intention, which Attari himself notified officially to the authorities, to immediately send a group of firefighters to help extinguish the fires in Limassol district. The Minister underlined that this shows with no doubt the tangible solidarity between the two sides and is most appreciated.

The Ministry said in a post on platform X - Twitter that there is a mutual commitment to boost cooperation between Cyprus and Palestine on the basis of their unwavering relations and tangible solidarity.
