Protests Erupt Across Israel Against Netanyahu’s Judicial Reforms

Haifa:Israel Hundreds of Israelis protested at multiple locations across northern and central regions, voicing opposition to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's proposed judicial reforms.

According to Anadolu Agency, demonstrations were reported in Haifa, Nahariya, and Western Galilee, with protesters also gathering on bridges in coastal areas such as Maagan Michael and Neurim. The protesters expressed dissatisfaction with Netanyahu's government, chanting slogans against him and holding signs holding him accountable for failing to prevent the October 7, 2023, attack.

Netanyahu's government has been advocating for judicial changes since early 2023, arguing that these reforms would rebalance the powers between government branches and reduce what it views as excessive judicial interference in executive and legislative affairs. However, opposition parties contend that these measures threaten judicial independence and could limit government oversight.

In March 2025, an amendment was passed by the Knesset, altering the composition of the judicial selection committee and the process for appointing judges. This amendment is set to take effect with the beginning of the next Knesset term.
