PSG’s Kvaratskhelia Faces Season-Ending Surgery Following ACL Injury

Paris:Paris Saint-Germain winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is expected to miss the remainder of the season after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee during Tuesday's 4-2 Champions League victory against Barcelona, the French club confirmed Wednesday.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, PSG announced that the 25-year-old Georgian international will undergo surgery in the coming days following his injury at the Parc des Princes.

Kvaratskhelia suffered the injury after landing awkwardly while attempting to tackle Barcelona's Xavi Espart early in the second half. He was assisted off the field shortly before the hour mark, unable to bear weight on his right leg. Although PSG has not specified a recovery timeline, ACL injuries typically entail months of rehabilitation, making Kvaratskhelia's return this season unlikely.

The winger, who transferred from Napoli to PSG in January 2025, was recognized as the 2025-26 UEFA Champions League Player of the Season, contributing significantly to the team's back-to-back European titles.

In response to his diagnosis, Kvaratskhelia shared an emotional message on Instagram, questioning "why me" and expressing his resolve to return stronger. He acknowledged the forthcoming recovery period as one of hard work and resilience, emphasizing his commitment to his supporters.

In addition to Kvaratskhelia's setback, PSG confirmed that Ousmane Dembele and captain Marquinhos will also be sidelined for several weeks due to thigh injuries sustained in the same match. Dembele suffered a left thigh injury, while Marquinhos sustained a right thigh injury. Both players are to remain under treatment.

These injuries occur as Luis Enrique's team aims to defend their Champions League title, having won all three of their opening matches in the competition this season.
