Pupils stranded due to landslide in Switzerland, back in Milan to return home

The school pupils and their teachers who were stranded in Switzerland due to a landslide, are now in Milan to begin their return journey to Cyprus. The group, 65 pupils and six teachers from the English School in Nicosia, were on a school trip when bad weather hit. Foreign Ministry Spokesman Theodoros Gotsis told the Cyprus News Agency that yesterday night road traffic was restored and thus they began their bus journey to Milan, where their school trip began some days ago, in order to arrange their flights home. The group was stranded in a hotel in Switzerland due to a landslide that occured on Saturday evening in the southern border with Italy. Following the landslide and heavy rains there were difficulties as regards electricity supply and traffic in the area. It is noted that the Embassy of Cyprus in Rome, which is accredited in Switzerland, has been handling the issue since the very beginning in order for the group to return safely home.
