Dushanbe: Russian President Vladimir Putin highlighted the strong alliance between Russia and Tajikistan during his state visit to the Central Asian nation, where he met with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon.

According to Anadolu Agency, Putin expressed the importance of the bilateral relationship in terms of security and defense, acknowledging the challenging regional situation. He emphasized that Russia values its alliance with Tajikistan and is committed to fulfilling its obligations as an ally. The meeting took place in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, where Putin and Rahmon discussed the positive development of Russian-Tajik relations.

Putin noted the growth in trade and economic ties, with a reported increase in bilateral trade turnover by over 17% in the first seven months of the year. He mentioned that several significant steps are planned during his visit, underscoring the need for a joint statement to outline future cooperation across various sectors.

Rahmon also expressed satisfaction with the progress in relations between Moscow and Dushanbe, highlighting active political dialogue and the successful development of trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian links. He underscored the close cooperation between the two nations on security issues and international matters.

Putin's visit to Tajikistan includes participation in the second Russia-Central Asia summit and the Heads of State Council meeting of the Commonwealth of Independent States. During the visit, Putin and Rahmon engaged in both narrow and expanded meetings, resulting in a joint statement to deepen the strategic partnership and alliance. Additionally, a series of agreements were signed to further enhance cooperation between the two countries.
