Putin Enacts New Secrecy Measures on Russian Energy Data

Moscow:Russian President Vladimir Putin has implemented stricter controls on the release of information concerning the country's energy and oil products. This move is aimed at complicating the enforcement of sanctions by the United States and other Western nations.

According to Anadolu Agency, the new decree, signed on Monday, adds information about the processing volumes and product output of Russian oil refineries to the list of restricted data. This decision is a response to what are described as "unfriendly acts" by the United States and allied international organizations.

The decree restricts the sharing of details such as the names, quantities, and prices of exported energy products, as well as the identities of sellers, buyers, and intermediaries. It also covers payment settlements, delivery schedules, and the logistics of transport vehicles, including routes and storage facilities.

Furthermore, the decree classifies "aggregated customs statistics" and "planned sales volumes" of oil and energy products as restricted information. The dissemination of such data via media and the internet is prohibited unless companies disclose information about their own operations. Access to restricted data may be granted with the consent of the data owner, while state agencies can access the information within their legal remit.

The Russian government has been given a timeframe of 10 days to define the product codes affected by these restrictions and to establish rules for the automated processing of data from state systems.
