Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday received Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in Moscow for the meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization's (SCO) Council of Heads of Government. The meeting marks a significant diplomatic engagement between the two countries in the context of the SCO summit.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Kremlin shared a video of Putin and Jaishankar shaking hands ahead of their meeting. The talks included the participation of several key Russian officials, such as presidential aide Yuri Ushakov, though no details on the discussions were disclosed. Jaishankar arrived in Moscow on Monday for a three-day visit to attend the SCO meeting, which took place on Tuesday.

Jaishankar also held talks with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, on Monday. The discussions focused on bilateral and international issues, particularly preparations for an upcoming annual summit between India and Russia. This was confirmed by a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry. Additionally, the Indian minister attended a meeting between Putin and the heads of delegations present at the SCO meeting.

The talks occur amid plans for a visit by Putin to India at the end of 2025, as stated by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. He expressed hope that the visit would be 'very meaningful.' Lavrov also mentioned during his meeting with Jaishankar that the annual summit between India and Russia is scheduled to take place in New Delhi in three weeks.
